Things to keep in mind
1. Our current CNC machine has a working surface area of 150mm x 100mm.
2. The maximum thickness of material that can be used is 42mm.
3. Types of materials that we are currently supporting are: wax, plastics, aluminum, and varieties of wood. If you want to use a different material just let me know. CONTACT

For both designing 3D data and creating tool paths for the CNC machine, we highly recommend using Fusion 360. [Fuison 360] is an application published by Autodesk that can be used for CAD 3D modeling as well as CAM tool path generation and simulation.

Unless you are experienced with tool pathing and CNC tools, we suggest taking a look at some of the free tutorials, video lessons, and other information available from Autodesk. Once you feel somewhat comfortable with creating a variety of types of toolpaths and simulating them, please continue with this guide.

Some of you may have your own personal endmills that you will want to use, but if not we have a selection of end mills on hand which you can use. To use our community endmills you will first need to update the tool library inside Fusion 360 on your PC or mac to reflect our tool library. To do this you will need to download the JSON file and import it into your local tool library as shown in the screenshots below.

In the CAM workspace open up the Tool Library from the dropdown menu under where it says Manage. Open your Local Library at the bottom, or create a new library, and click the import button at the top.

Select the MTRL tool library .json file that you downloaded earlier and click Open.

Your tool library should now look something like this.

When setting up your tool paths, after selecting your tool and your target geometry, open up the passes tab, check the box next to Multiple Depths and set the Maximum Roughing Stepdown to 0.5mm. This is make sure that the CNC mill doesn’t to remove more material than it can handle in one pass. Failing to set this parameter could result in a breaking an endmill or damaging the machine.


Once you have finished making all your toolpaths and have simulated them and everything looks good, go ahead and hit the Post Process button. Under Post Configuration set it to “eding.cps – Generic Eding CNC/USBCNC” and click Post and choose a location to save your process.

And that’s it! If possible please bring your Fusion 360 data with you so I can take a look and make sure it’s ok and make any necessary changes.
